Join us now :)

The application for Google Summer of Code (GSOC) is now open. This is the first time OpenVINO team at Intel is engaged in this program. But in fact, our mentors and organizers (me and Adrian) both had joined the program in the past. We both think this experience is particularly meaningful for our career development. Here is why.

It’s quick!

I think many internship programs I applied to in the past were very process-heavy and made the whole experience almost too overwhelming for coders. Back in the day, I was working on my little wearable projects in the lab (https://www.eyetap.org/), and the last thing I want to deal with is approval and taking time off from my Ph.D. for a year. With the GSOC program, I was able to do my work in the summer at home! It was like amazing as I can do what I love and get validation from the industry.

It’s paid!

I mean … It was not lots of money, but money is money. I was a student and I did many projects without getting paid. It was particularly hard when I was trying to figure out my lunch situation and yet want to work on something I love. That little cash really changed my life, and the camera I got from the program was the main reason I got my prototype done too. Amazing.

It’s real with real mentors!

Having the industrial insight from my mentor was eye-opening, especially since I was in Toronto, Canada at that time. Going to Silicon Valley, and working there with the tech companies was my dream. And I believe today I’m living my dream.

I had a great time

So, today, I can still vividly remember how the GSOC program had changed my life. Yet, if you look at what I was proposing at that time? I was definitely living in the future too.

Apply Now!

The application is now open, and if you really think you got the right project to share and work on with us. Please do join us this year! See ya all.
